Countdown to Thanksgiving Day 19

Day 19

I'm really grateful today for people who care. Before leaving class today, my stats professor told everyone to not leave before he said one more thing. He started telling everyone how important it is to not drive when you're tired and that if anyone is worried about not having money to pay for a hotel while they're driving over the holidays, they need to stop and sleep at a hotel no matter what. There have been so many time I've come back from Thanksgiving or Christmas break only to hear the tragic news of a student's death because of poor weather and/or decisions. Dr. Grimshaw said, "If money is an issue, stop and sleep at the hotel and have them send me the bill." While I'm sure no one will take advantage of this, it was a sweet and genuine offer from someone that cares. I can think of many more examples like this. Somehow its the small things that really make a difference. So, I challenge to to share your experiences and think really hard about who and what you're grateful for. 7 days till Thanksgiving... perfect time to start. Plus it gives you a headstart in having some Christmas Spirit.

I expect to see all of you starting your countdowns... TODAY!

Countdown to Thanksgiving Days 17 & 18

Day 17

The puppy. Has grown! This was about 3 weeks ago when he was barely 6 months old. Time flies. Look at how sweet he is. He definitely likes to get into things though. He's quite the curious puppy and his nose doesn't help. We have to hide all of our socks in the bottom of the laundry basket or else he'll find them. (Chandler must have some stinky feet!) He's so good and we love him so much. I have to say that we 100% have no regrets and think that he is the perfect amount of responsibility, fun, love and enjoyment. Aka he's the perfect substitute for a child. Once our schedules calm down a little, there will be time for that. And I'm definitely happy that we're dealing with this puppy face without children! Well that's that... I don't want to be one of those crazy people that only ever talks about their dogs, so I'll stop now...

Day 18

I didn't want to just say that I'm grateful for my hubby since I hope that it is obvious that I am so grateful for him. Instead, I'd like for today to be the day that I'm grateful for the talents that Chandler has developed. With few lessons since he was 10 or 15 (somewhere in there he started to play the drums...) he has worked really hard to be a good drummer. He loves to spend time with his drums for hours at a time. I'm grateful that he has a talent that allows him to relax and have some time to himself. I'm grateful that he's willing to work hard to improve his skills AND enjoys it AND loves to share his talent.

Tonight he went with a friend to a drummers clinic in Salt Lake. He hasn't come home yet, but he's been texting me the whole time with how much he loves me and how much fun he's having. So my guess is that he's having a great time. I thought it was so cute he was so excited to invite two of the 13 yr old boys in our Sunday School class that we teach. He explained to their moms how much he loved going to these clinics when he was younger and how much fun they are but that he always learned a lot too. Anyway, I just thought about how nice it is that he can have boys in the neighborhood look up to him.

He just barely texted me "So they do a raffle at every drum clinic, and I won the grand prize!!! Hahahaha. Its a 16" china cymbal." Man does he have luck.

Here's a picture of his drums... (another cute story... he would collect aluminum cans from the neighbors when he was little to save up for his first set of drums. He saved up enough and bought his very own set and then slowly converted his set into this... plus some)

Oh and I not only do his talents give him time for himself... but they give me time to scrapbook. Definitely a plus.

Countdown to Thanksgiving Days 12-16

I'm way behind on this whole countdown thing, so I guess I'll just incorporate some of our most recent events along with 5 whole things I'm grateful for.

12. Not being on a diet.
This weekend Chandler, Josh, Richelle and I went to the Mayan for dinner. The food was pretty good... the men in loin clothes were even better. Heh.

(PICTURES TO COME>>> RIGHT HERE>>>>)

I took my neice to Pizza Factory for lunch on Saturday for her birthday (that was a month ago). Saturday night I wasn't really hungry after having such a big lunch so we had dessert for dinner... Oreo Milkshakes! Okay, bad weekend for being healthy, but Grandma Carter (Chandler's grandma) gave me at least 20 apples from her tree, so I'm going to have those to help me be much better this week.

13. Driving a new and safe car.
Have I already used this one? If I have, oops... but I'm really so grateful to have a new car to help me feel safe in bad weather. It snowed this weekend! AH!

14. Having a TV in my bedroom.
It seems like everyone says that this is the worst thing for your marriage, but Chandler and I have absolutely LOVED watching movies in bed. Oh, and Prison Break... we started season 4 on Saturday night and stayed up till 3am watching it.

15. Scrapbooking.
Scrapbooking is definitely my way of relaxing. I love being creative, but not having to think too much and just making cute things. Somehow cutting paper and taping down ribbon just helps me breathe. I've been going to my aunt's house 2 or 3 times a month recently and I've been able to get so many pictures on pages. It's so fun to actually print pictures rather than look at all of the pictures on the computer.

16. Some good sleep.
This weekend Chandler and I had a really really weird sleep schedule. We stayed up late Friday night doing homework and got up early Saturday morning to go do some group projects at school. After I took Tyler out for lunch, I went home and took a nap with Chandler. I think we slept for somewhere between 3-4 hours. We woke up at 7:30pm and then we stayed up really late to watch prison break. We woke up late on Sunday with just enough time to get ready for our 1pm Church. Haha. And then by 7:30 I was soooo tired. Kyler's Mission President and wife came over for dinner, and naturally Kyler fed us a delicious meal followed by Wassil (spelling? What's that stuff? Look for an upcoming recipe post for some winter goodness!). That put me out. I was asleep by 9:30pm. The dog had a hard time falling asleep so early, so Chandler was up with him for another 3 or 4 hours. I woke up at 6am this morning no problem. If only I could get to be that early every night! Seeing as today I'm at school till 9pm, tomorrow Chandler and I have an appt at the gym at 9pm and Wednesday Chandler has basketball till 11:30pm... It'll at least be Thursday before I can get some good sleep again. So when it comes... I definitely appreciate some good sleep.

Clue: My surprise is pretty expensive... but I'm not the only one saving up money for the surprise....

Countdown to Thanksgiving Day 11

Day 11.

I'm thankful for being in the right place at the right time.

Let's make this story short and say that I was at Roberts(craft store), and Chandler was supposed to meet me there to get my keys. Chandler found me just as I had walked into the store. He said that he had just been behind a lady that ran into a motorcyclist. So my Hero Husband dragged the motorcycle to the side of the road, helped the big motorcyclist out of the road, dragged the bumper out of the road and directed traffic and helped everyone till the ambulance arrive.
While I'm CPR and First Aid certified, I'm much more grateful that my Superman was the one to help out in that situation and that two, I am thankful that I got to Roberts a minute earlier and missed what may have been a really really bad accident. Chandler waited till help arrived, and when I left Roberts, the road was cleared (except for a little bit of debris) and the fire truck had left, and it looked like everyone was going to be okay.

Building our home, one brick at a time

I urge you to examine your life. Determine where you are and what you need to do to be the kind of person you want to be. Create inspiring, noble, and righteous goals that fire your imagination and create excitement in your heart. And then keep your eye on them. Work consistently towards achieving them.
    Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin
In 10 weeks my brother will be home from his mission for our church. He's been in Sweden for 2 years in January. I feel like he just barely left. 2 years?! It feels like yesterday. And look what has happened in the last two years! But I wonder, did I do everything I could? Or did I just let the time fly by and miss opportunities I could have had and goals I could have accomplished?
I've decided I need to make a 5 year goal list, or else the time is going disappear before I even realize it. Isn't it weird how the older you get the faster time flies?
